Happiness post knee replacement is....
* A walker that enabled me to shuffle a few feet in the hospital now relegated to sole use as a clothes rack in the corner of the bedroom.
* Two walking canes -- the successors to the walker -- now misplaced in the house or perhaps the car, and there's no rush to find them because I can walk pretty well without a cane or any other crutch.
* The Superdawg actually getting excited about the clock striking walk-hour again, though we're still limited in time and distance. Terrain is a consideration, too, even though Sadie already is lobbying for the rugged route where the snakes do their springtime slither.
Still, there are three more butt-kicking PT sessions this week before I see my orthopedist Friday and find out if he's happy with the bend in my knee and the spring in my step. He's a jock doc so my PT is betting on 2 to 4 more weeks of prescribed therapy for me. With all the gain from all that pain, maybe there's another marathon in my future.
Actually, I will stick with a long walk -- a Volksmarch, perhaps, or a trek along the Marshwalk in Murrells Inlet or the sojourns with art and Nature in Brookgreen Gardens. I don't want to wear out the space-age hardware in my knee; however, I would be open to a "Dancing With the Stars" invitation.
The journey is not complete yet, but we're on the way.
